Preview
Preview is very useful for reading heavy and long articles. Only read the important words or general idea in that article. You only have to choose first sentence and last one or two paragraph, and read it. You can avoid reading the things that you don’t really want or need to read. The positive side in preview is: it keeps you spending long time for read the article. And the negative side is: it doesn’t give you the details.
Skim
Skim useful for entertainment, sport, or any popular section in magazine or light reading. The way is: think your eyes as magnets. Move fast, and only catch few key words in each line. And everybody could skims one article in little different words, but they can get similar idea or comprehension of what the section talking about.
Cluster
Cluster is used for difficult reading like poem and etc. Read one at a time, as fast as you can. It actually increases your speed and comprehension. After you read one or two words, as fast as you can, read the next words. It trains you to look at groups, instead one group.
Scanning
Scanning trains you to decide what and where the information that you looking for. Useful for fact reading. For example, if you want find who did what, you can only read the words that similar to information that you need. And if you can find the page that contains it, read as fast as you can until you find the information that you need.
Skimming
Skimming is notice only information that contains idea of the central theme or topic. Useful for reading a book, article, or story. Read only selected sentences in order to get the main idea. The main idea usually located at few sentences in first paragraph, or last paragraph. Once you have general idea, you can use scanning for specific pieces to find information that you need.
